Have you ever felt there are too many options with how you can deploy your Microsoft Dynamics GP solution? Do not let the flexibility halt your decision making process. Depending on the size, IT resources available and requirements of your organization, all options could make sense, at different stages of your organizations growth. The great thing about Dynamics GP is its ability to scale and adapt to your organization and continue to allow for collaboration throughout the organization.

First, let’s clarify what these advantages are.

On-Premise:

Tried and True. This has been the standard implementation since the inception of Dynamics ERP some 20 yrs ago. On-premise provides full-bodied functionality and customizations to companies with their own internal IT resources. On-premise solutions require adequate infrastructure, and a commitment to on-going maintenance and security. This doesn’t mean you have to be a Fortune 500 Company. Simply, it is advantageous to have suitable IT on staff. The total cost of ownership is higher than the other options, but can be reduced over time and the ROI could be substantial if set up correctly.

Payment: Owned License with up-front software purchase that can be financed using Microsoft Financing with some incredible offers right now. This along with the Get 3 for 1 license special can have you pocketing up to $8,000 and a low monthly payment for your solution.

On premise might be a good fit if your organization:

Has more than 10-15 users.

Has the need for increased customizations and integration with other applications to maximize your efficiencies. (yes please!)

Prefers to have complete control over the maintenance windows, issue resolution, security, data, and service pack updates etc.

Is interested in greater long-term value and ideal when you’ve already invested in an IT environment and staff.

However you look at it, On Premise deployment although may be the most expensive option will provide you the greatest amount of control as well as the best options to customize and adapt to your quick and growing organization.

Sr Business leaders are saying it is time to replace the outdated ERP system, but it needs to be done cheaply and quickly. The former CIO of Keystone Automotive Group and former CIO of Liberty Mutual offer their advice…

By Paul Bergamo and Jesus Arriaga,

From an article in CIO magazine, May 2010 that is a good source of information to resurface as we are in the midst of companies considering technology upgrades.

SCENARIO A $500 million distributor has a 15-year-old ERP system nearing the end of its usefulness. While last year’s recession tabled plans to replace it, senior business leaders have now resurrected the idea. They’ve asked the CIO to find an ERP system that can be implemented “quickly and cost-effectively.” What steps should this CIO take to ensure success?

Paul Bergamo

Those two little words—“ERP replacement”—are enough to make many CIOs want to pick up and move on. Many of us have experienced firsthand the difficulties of successfully implementing ERP. But it can be done well if you cover a few critical bases.

First, the CIO needs to make sure others don’t see this as a simple “lift and load” system replacement. (It never is.) If senior business leaders don’t weigh in on all significant aspects of the implementation, the CIO will end up with misaligned expectations and skewed priorities.

According to Gartner, Microsoft is “Moving on Up to the Top” of their Magic Quadrant for Sales Force Automation.

In their recent article they speak of how Microsoft has joined the other 800 pound Gorillas in the sales automation space. See chart:

Figure 1. Magic Quadrant for Sales Force Automation

Source: Gartner (July 2010)

To be included in this Magic Quadrant, a vendor must demonstrate that it:

Has at least 100 customers that have deployed opportunity management systems in its last two versions of the software

Has at least five new named customers that have actively deployed opportunity management functionality during the past 12 months

Is actively selling or marketing to multiple industries and geographies an SFA solution with opportunity management as the primary application

Has proved that it can be deployed in sales organizations of more than 100 user

A successful vendor selection strategy will assess providers that support data requirements, access modes and functionality for each sales role. The sales processes will dictate the functional components that best satisfy organizational and individual sales requirements.

Consultative solution selling will require rich-content process support to tie proposals, bids, configurations and quotes together with authorizations and order-capture systems.

Market Definition/Description

SFA applications enable B2B organizations to automate sales activities, processes and administrative responsibilities for sales professionals. Core functionalities include account, contact and opportunity management. Additional add-on capabilities focus on improving the sales effectiveness of salespeople, such as sales configuration, sales coaching, guided selling, proposal generation and content management; and sales performance management support, including incentive compensation, quota and territory management.

The 2010 CFO of the Year Award event has come and gone and the start of the new year is well under way with Year End reports starting to appear. But with all that said we need to continue to recognize the CFO’s that received awards and a couple special nominees that are true and dear to our hearts.

We would like to congratulate 2 of our very own customers; Eric Chiusolo, CFO of American Career College and Richard Wheeler, CFO of Clean Energy Fuels for being nominated. We have had first hand experiences interacting with these two individuals and can speak very highly for their dedication to the companies success, drive for excellence and commitment to their teams.

And the remaining honorees are included in the story below:

CoreLogic’s Piszel, Other CFOs Honored

The chief financial officer who helped foster the biggest debut of a public company here in years was honored Tuesday along with four other financial executives.

Anthony “Buddy” Piszel of Santa Ana’s CoreLogic Inc. oversaw regulatory approvals and financing deals that paved the way for the real estate data services company to split from Santa Ana-based First American Corp. last year.

CoreLogic had a recent market value of $2.3 billion.

Piszel joined First American in 2009 and was named chief financial officer of the information solutions group—CoreLogic’s predecessor—a year later.

For CoreLogic’s split, Piszel led the effort to gain regulatory approvals from the Securities and Exchange Commission and others. He also restructured credit lines and struck new ones.

Piszel was given the Lifetime Achievement award at the CFO of the Year awards in Irvine presented by the Business Journal and the Orange County and Long Beach chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

He jokingly called finance “a tough racket,” in accepting the award.

Other honorees:

Khann Tran, chief financial officer Newport Beach-based Pacific Life Insurance Co. Tran, a Vietnamese immigrant, has been in finance at the life insurer for 20 years. He received the CFO of a Private Company award.

Bret Johnsen, chief financial officer of Newport Beach-based chipmaker Mindspeed Technologies Inc. He received the CFO of a Public Company award.

Kerri Ruppert Schiller, chief financial officer of Children’s Hospital of Orange County, who received the CFO of a Not-for-Profit award.

Jatan Shah, chief financial officer of Costa Mesa audio gear company QSC Audio Products LLC, who received the Rising Star award.
